Spring in the Cotswolds

As winter’s chill gives way to the gentle warmth of spring, the Cotswolds burst into life with bright colours. Imagine rolling hills covered in wildflowers, lambs playing in the fields, and gardens blooming. It’s truly beautiful!

Activities to Enjoy:

Garden Visits: Don’t miss the beautiful Hidcote Manor Garden or the charming Painswick Rococo Garden. Visit in the early morning for the best light and fewer crowds.

Walking Trails: Explore the Cotswold Way or take a gentle hike up Broadway Tower for panoramic views.

Local Markets: Spring is market season! Wander through Cirencester’s Corn Hall Market for fresh produce and artisan goodies. Try the local cheeses and homemade preserves for a real taste of the Cotswolds.

Wildlife Watching: Visit the Cotswold Wildlife Park to see the animals awakening after winter. Go early in the day to see the animals at their most active.

Cycling Tours: Take a bike ride through the scenic villages and countryside. You can even rent an electric bike for an easier ride through hilly areas.

What to Pack:

– Light layers and a waterproof jacket (spring showers are unfortunately a thing).

– Comfortable walking shoes for those impromptu countryside strolls.

– A camera to capture the stunning floral displays.

Summer in the Cotswolds

Summer in the Cotswolds is all about long, sunny days and endless blue skies. The honey-coloured stone cottages glow warmly in the sunshine, and the entire region feels like it’s straight out of a postcard.

Activities to Enjoy:

Water Sports: Head to Cotswold Water Park for a splash in the lakes, kayaking, paddleboarding, or just a leisurely swim.

Festivals: Summer is festival season. Check out the Cheltenham Music Festival or the Big Feastival for some fantastic entertainment. Top tip: Bring a foldable chair for comfort during outdoor performances.

Outdoor Theatre: Enjoy a play at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester or the outdoor theatre at the Minchinhampton Common. Bring a blanket or cushion, sit back and enjoy the show.

Horseback Riding: Experience the countryside from a different perspective with a horseback ride. Make sure to book in advance as summer sessions fill up quickly.

What to Pack:

– Sunglasses and sunscreen – protect yourself from that glorious sun.

– A hat and light clothing to stay cool.

– A picnic blanket for those spontaneous alfresco meals.

Autumn in the Cotswolds

As summer fades, the Cotswolds transform into a stunning tapestry of reds, oranges, and golds. The air becomes crisp, and there’s a peaceful feeling as nature gets ready for winter.

Activities to Enjoy:

Scenic Drives: Take a drive through the winding country lanes and marvel at the autumnal scenery. Drive the route through Castle Combe for breathtaking views.

Harvest Festivals: Autumn is harvest time. Join in the fun at local festivals and sample some seasonal produce. Look for events offering apple picking and cider tasting.

Country Walks: Explore the tranquil trails around Bourton-on-the-Water or Stow-on-the-Wold, with the crunch of leaves underfoot.

Historic House Visits: Many historic houses like Snowshill Manor offer autumnal events. Check for special tours focusing on autumn traditions.

Wine Tasting: Visit a local vineyard like Three Choirs Vineyards for a tasting session. We recommend booking a tour to learn about the wine-making process and enjoy a tasting.

What to Pack:

– Warm layers and a cosy jumper.

– Sturdy boots for those leafy walks.

– A flask for hot drinks on the go.

Winter in the Cotswolds

Winter in the Cotswolds is pure magic. Think frosty mornings, roaring fires, and picturesque villages twinkling with fairy lights. It’s the perfect season for a cosy retreat.

Activities to Enjoy:

Christmas Markets: Get into the festive spirit at Cirencester or Cheltenham Christmas markets. We recommend visiting in the evening to enjoy the twinkling lights and festive atmosphere.

Historic Houses: Visit Sudeley Castle or Blenheim Palace, often adorned with festive decorations. Don’t forget to check for special events like carol singing or Christmas fairs.

Winter Walks: Enjoy the crisp air with a walk around Minchinhampton Common or through the snow-covered Slad Valley. Grab a hot chocolate before you head off to keep warm.

Museum Visits: Explore local history at the Corinium Museum in Cirencester or the Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water.
