The Cotswolds

Quintessentially English, outstandingly beautiful

Wild Thyme and Honey - Wild Thyme & Honey Hotel in the Cotswolds

The village

Ampney Crucis epitomises quintessential Cotswold beauty with its winding brook, rolling meadows, and ancient stone buildings.

As the largest of the three picture-perfect Ampneys (alongside Ampney St Mary and Ampney St Peter), it provides the ideal setting for a relaxing getaway.

The geology of Jurassic limestone in the area gives it a distinctive character, seen in the honey-hued stone architecture, rolling hills, and the wildflower meadows that thrive in its soil.

Our location in Ampney Crucis is just a few miles from Cirencester, a picturesque Gloucestershire market town with plenty to keep Roman history buffs happy.

It’s easy to see why the Cotswolds have inspired so many great writers and artists over the years, including Jane Austen, Beatrix Potter, J.R.R. Tolkien, John Singer Sargent and William Morris.

The great outdoors

There are so many ways to enjoy the Cotswold countryside, the easiest being to grab a pair of wellies from reception and start walking. But there are plenty of other country pursuits available, including trout fishing, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, 4x4 off-road driving and falconry walks. For these activities, it’s best to chat with us in advance of your arrival so we can talk through the options and secure your bookings.
